Benne wafer & pimento
Sesame crackers baked here every afternoon, house pimento cheese, hot pepper jelly from a farm in Climax.
Downtown Greensboro · Since 2021
Seasonal Southern cooking on North Davie. Dinner Wednesday through Sunday, eleven seats at the bar that we never hold, and takeout if you'd rather eat at home.
The kitchen
The rest of the menu changes when the farms change it. These don't, because people would notice. Full menu and prices are on the ordering page.

North Carolina mountain trout, cooked over oak, brown butter and lemon. Comes whole. We'll bone it if you ask.

Carolina Gold rice, pork gravy cooked down for six hours, a soft egg. It's eleven dollars and it's the best thing here.

The room
We took the ground floor of a 1920s saltbox on North Davie and left the brick alone. Forty covers, eleven bar stools, one long table in the back that seats twelve.
Your table is yours for the night. We don't turn tables at 8:15 and we won't ask you to move to the bar for dessert — if that means we serve fewer people, that's a trade we made on purpose.
The bar is walk-in only. Eleven seats, first come, and there is almost always one free before six.
Before you come
Thirty days out, online or by phone. Parties of six or more, call us — the back table needs a heads-up so we can set it properly.
Never reserved. Full menu, no wait list, and the best seat in the house if you're eating alone.
Tell us when you book, not when you sit down. Almost everything can be made without dairy or gluten with an afternoon's notice.
We close Mondays and Tuesdays and will open either for a private dinner. Twenty-four to forty guests.
$25 a bottle, two bottle limit, nothing that's already on our list. Bring the good one.
Most of the menu travels. Order online and pick it up at the bar — we'll have it bagged and ready at your slot.

Half a block up from the Cultural Center. The deck across Davie is free after 6pm and it's a two minute walk. There's a step at the front — the Davie Street side door is level and we'll happily bring you in that way.
Kitchen stops thirty minutes before close. The bar keeps going a while after.
